Our Pack
Pack 434 is chartered by the National Capital Area Council, Mongtomery District (formerly the Crossroads District). Our sponsoring organization is the Norman Price American Legion Post 68 in Brookeville, Maryland.
Our pack meetings generally take place at 6:45 p.m. every third Thursday at Greenwood Elementary School. In addition each month's pack meeting, we also sponsor at least one pack activity each month. The pack activities are typically scheduled for a Saturday or Sunday. While there are many different activities that the pack has participated in and enjoyed over the years, some are repeated annually as part of the pack's tradition. Like all Cub Scout packs, Pack 434 is divided into dens, small groups typically consisting of 6 to 8 boys of like ages/grades. The den evironment allows boys to get to know each other well and provides them with opportunities to do detailed activities that would be difficult in the larger pack. All dens are established and overseen by our Cubmaster.
Each den usually meets once or twice a month, at the discretion of it's den leader. Meetings are planned and run by an adult Den Leader, with the help of an Assistant Den Leader or parent/guardian volunteer. Parents and guardians are responsible for their son's behavior and conduct during den meetings. If there are discipline problems, parents or guardians may be requested to participate in den meetings to help control the scout and teach him respect for adult leaders and other scouts.
Den meetings are often organized around a monthly theme and include games, learning activities, skits and cheers, preparation activities for upcoming pack events, and recordkeeping for the boys’ achievements. Most dens work with the boys to ensure that they are making timely progress in fulfilling their achievement requirements towards their badge of rank or electives. Work on achievements and electives is also completed at home with the family, so parents or guardians will need to assist the scouts and periodically review progress and certify completion of skills and achievements. Webelos dens may begin activities with local Boy Scout Troops in fulfillment of the requirements of the Arrow of Light Award and in preparation for advancement to Boy Scouts.
Dens may charge dues to cover or defray the cost of supplies used in den activities and completing achievements.
