What A New Scout Needs
Once your son becomes a member, you'll need to purchase him the appropriate uniform, accessories, and handbook.
Cub Scouts and adult leaders wear uniforms to show that they belong to the world's largest boys organization. The uniform:
provides a place for proper display of achievements and advancements; and
reminds Scouts of the steps along the scouting trail.
The official uniform is described in the Wolf, Bear, and Webelos handbooks. The inside covers of these books displays the proper location of various patches on the front of the uniform and shirt sleeves.
The uniform used in Pack 434 consists of the following items. By following the links provided, many of these items can be purchased online at scoutstuff.org, the online retail store of The Boy Scouts of America. Alternatively, you may purchase these items at The Boys Scouts of America, National Captial Area Scout Shop located in Bethesda, Maryland. Official Cub Scout shirt - short or long-sleeved (blue for Tiger, Wolf and Bear Cubs; blue or khaki for Webelos). Approximate online cost is $23.00.
- Neckerchief - orange for Tiger Cubs, gold for Wolf Cubs, blue for Bear Cubs, and plaid for Webelos.
Neckerchief Slide (metal knot for Tiger, Wolf and Bear Cubs; Webelos emblem for Webelos)
Cap - baseball style cap (blue and orange for Tiger Cubs; blue and gold for Wolf and Bear Cubs; light blue and dark blue for Webelos with Webelos Emblem); and
Belt - web belt with brass buckle (blue)

Patches/Badges
In addition to the basic uniform, each scout also needs the following patches/badges to display on his uniform:



National Capital Area Council (NCAC) Emblem
U.S. Flag (comes with official uniform)
Our pack numerals 4, 3, and 4 (these are red patches with white stitching)
- Den numeral (the single-digit number of the den you are joining)
- A purple "World Crest" badge.
